Geophysical Activity Programme

Initially, in 1985, the Geophysical Activity Programme (GAP) or "Geophysikalisches Aktionsprogramm" in German, was a small gathering of German geophysics students. Today it has become a major geophysical student meeting and networking event.

For us this included over 10 major sponsors, 150 student participants, six organisation teams, several helping hands and a five figure budget.

I was one of the three head organizers, managing interplay of the six teams. Challenges included:

Nevertheless, we managed any difficulties and in the end it was a very enjoyable event for the students, the sponsors and everyone involved. The excursions included highlights from the "Oil and Gas Museum" and a geothermal plant to a visit of the DESY, the particle accelerator located in Hamburg.
